National Popular Vote

The League of Women Voters of Colorado supports the direct popular vote method for electing the president and vice-president.

National Pouplar Vote state laws makes every vote, in every state count equally.  Colorado law will pool our voters with all of America, so that all Colorado votes will be in the total count.

The National Popular vote legislation passed by the Colorado General Assembly and signed by the governor in 2019 is under attack.  Petitions repealing the legislation of the state legislature are under consideration by the Secretary of state.

TABOR Review

The 2019 legislature passed a bill giving the state authority to keep and spend revenue in excess of the constitutional limitation imposed by TABOR on public schools, higher education and transportation infrastructure.

The bill is a referendum that will be submitted to the voters at the statewide election held on November 5, 2019.

Census 2020

The census taken every 10 years determines how many representatives each state gets in Congress and is used to redraw district boundaries.  Each year the federal government distributes hundreds of billions of dollard to states and communities based on census data.

LWVCO supported successful passage in 2019 of the Clean Campaign Act that will shine light on secret political spending in Colorado elections and help our state hold accountable those that break campaign finance laws.  Reforming money in politics will help detect and deter corruption, stop foreign financial influence and increase transparency.
